Followings are the main points from an article by Thich Nhat Hanh. The original article is lengthy so I just post the main points. Impermanence is not always a negative thing. Buddhism is not optimistic or pessimistic, Buddhism is realistic.

The Essence of the Buddha's Teaching (1):

Impermanence

First of all, every authentic Dharma teaching bears the mark of impermanence. Any teaching that does not convey the truth of impermanence is not authentically Buddhist.

When you look at the nature of things with concentration, you discover that they are all impermanent. Everything is constantly changing. Nothing has a permanent identity. This impermanence is not a negative thing.

Impermanence is the very heart of life. It makes life possible. Reject impermanence, and you reject life. It is because of impermanence that everything is possible.

Impermanence puts an end to hatred and suffering as well. We need impermanence to transform them. So do not be afraid of impermanence.

The 2nd essence of Buddhism is No-Self which I shall post it later.
