It's ok if you can't chant the scriptures. Just recite "Nanmo Amituofo" sincerely (no specific number of times) and dedicate the merits to them. It's good to vow before dedicating merits if you wish to be reborn in Western Pureland. You may recite the following :-
Wish for Rebirth In The Pure Land
We wish to be born in the Western Pure Land with lotus blossoms in nine orders, as parents. When the lotus blossoms fully, we shall see the Buddha and be enlightened with the absolute truth, with never-retrogressive Bodhisattvas as companions.
愿生西方净土中，九品莲花为父母， 花开见佛悟无生，不退菩萨为伴侣！
Dedication of Merit
愿以念佛的功德回向给我已故的母亲或父亲（名字），愿她/他早日离苦得乐，早日往生西方极乐世界。
May the merits and virtues accrued from this practice dedicate to my late father or mother (their names). May he/her relieve the suffering of rebirth and reborn in Western Pureland soon.
If you can't chant a particular scripture or mantra. You can pray to Guanyin Pusa and ask her for help. You will find that you can miraculously know how to chant or recite it. I learned this from those uneducated aunties. I was amazed to see them chant and recite better than me even though some had not been to school before. They told me they couldn't write or read but could chant and recite because they asked Guanyin Pusa for help. It's really amazing!
I asked Guanyin Pusa for help and I could memorise Great Compassion Mantra (大悲咒) within 1 month. I have friends who try many years but still unable to memorise it. I told many people about this method which the aunties told me.
